A Translation of Pussy Riot’s Punk Prayer

U.K. news site The Guardian has a translation of Pussy Riot’s “Punk Prayer” in the Poem of the Week Section by Carol Rumens. This is a somewhat deeper translation than others on the web that seem to highlight the more graphic elements of the song. Carol Rumens seems to want to get to the message and not the shock value, which I think is a good thing.

Check out the translation HERE and see what you think about the “Punk Prayer.”

It is horrifying that these women are going through this ordeal over a political protest. I am fully aware that I probably do not share their causes and motivations, but the idea that speaking your mind can get you thrown in jail is just wrong. Especially in a country that is trying to rehab their reputation in the world. This is a blatant case of regression. It is one of many in recent years, but this one is getting the kind of media attention the others have not.

I will try to stay on top of this situation, but if history has proven anything it is that this will fade from view. Sad, but true.
